The packaging of your products is the mirror of your brand; it gives life to its identity, and plays an essential role in the sales strategy. The universe of your brand  is made up of products, but also of images and representations that may trigger the purchase.

The packaging is the basis of a sensory experience that aims to confirm consumers’ purchasing intention. It is an integral part of the meeting between your product and your customer, the customer experience is strongly impacted by the visual and practical aspects.

Through this article, we will reveal the secrets of developing practical and creative packaging that will be the strength of your brand; first the packaging and then the labeling design.

1. The packaging

Depending on the nature of each of the products you wish to develop, you will have to decide on the appropriate format to adopt; the most classic formats being 50g and 100g for creams, 100ml to 250ml for gels, etc. Hygiene is also very important: your most sensitive products must be the best protected. You should also think about packaging that will improve the product experience of your customers and make the product easier to use. This is why we advise you to choose tube or pump packaging for your creams, body lotions, scrubs, and any other sensitive product that you offer.

The materials that you select for your packaging depend on your convictions. Between plastic, glass, recycled materials, zero waste, or others, this is a strategic choice to be made. Some prefer to opt for eco-design, in order to limit the environmental impact of their products over their entire life cycles.

By choosing to work with a local supplier, the advantage would be the possibility of obtaining small quantities at attractive prices. But if the model that you pick is sold out or changed, that could be a drawback. A good tip would be to reduce these risks by diversifying suppliers.

On the other hand, choosing an international supplier will assure you of prevention against stockouts, and will guarantee you obtaining a stable model. In addition, if you plan on selling your products for export, they will be exempt from VAT. The downside would be the requirement of a high Minimum Purchase Quantity (MOQ).

2. The label

The graphic design of the label represents the envelope and visual identity of your product. A label must be readable and it must be able to attract the consumer. Therefore, it should be informative, attractive and engaging. This is what your customer will see first before they even try the product.

To design and create your brand’s visual identity, team up with a graphic designer. Your moodboard [ will be extremely useful in this step, it will serve as a support in order to translate your culture and your values into a graphic design. Play with shapes and colors while staying true to your brand!

Equally important is the choice of label material. In the field of cosmetics, the material chosen for your label plays a key role in the sustainability of your packaging. The material chosen must be impermeable to oil and water to optimize the stabilization of the print. You have several printing options: vinyl, Polypropylene (or PP) filament, or Flexography printing. Note that the advantage of vinyl is that the (MOQ) is low, compared to Polypropylene (PP) and Flexography which are high, but are cheaper. On the other hand, we do not recommend printing on laminated paper (ADESTOR type), because it is not strong enough and crumbles quickly in contact with water or oil, which makes the label unadapted for cosmetics. An important point to take into consideration: the more colors you have the more printing costs rise.
