The natural cosmetics that you make with love for your customers should be shipped and delivered with love too. As they are fragile and sensitive to temperature changes, it is important that shippers understand the correct method and rules for shipping cosmetics across international borders. Here’s what you, as a seller, need to know before you start your shipping journey:

The steps to know before shipping your cosmetics:

  • Understanding the rules and regulations of the destination country

Make sure you are aware of the rules and regulations of the destination country before sending your first shipment. Otherwise, you risk incurring additional license fees, customer delays, or even having your shipments returned at the border.

  • Knowing the required certificates

The certifications required differ according to the country of destination; certain certificates may or may not be requested by certain countries:

-The Certificate of Origin: from customs, the chamber of commerce, or the DMP (Morocco).

-The Certificate of conformity.

-Other specific analyses.

  • Learning how to pack your cosmetics

Improper packaging can be catastrophic and compromise product quality, resulting in damaged products. You must therefore, among other things:

  • Invest in the strength and durability of the packaging box.
  • Choose suitable packing materials like bubble wrap, corrugated inserts or crinkle paper and pack the items separately, overlapping them three to four times.
  • Make sure you do not leave any empty space in the container to avoid the contents colliding during transport.
  • Fill empty spaces with cushioning materials like foam peanuts, foam wraps and bubble wrap.
  • Use the arrows to indicate how to handle the shipment.

The incoterms adopted by Prodigia:

Depending on the cost of transport, the time of transfer of the goods, and therefore the risk, Prodigia selects for its customers one of these 3 incoterms:

EXW – Ex Works

This is the most basic incoterm a supplier can provide. Seller makes the item available for pickup at the factory and is not responsible for the product once it leaves the factory gates. Buyer is responsible for transportation from the factory and covers all export and import customs clearance and insurance costs.

CFR – Cost and Freight

The seller is responsible for bearing the cost of shipping to the named port of import; however, the risk passes to the buyer once the goods are loaded onto the vessel at the port of export and the final delivery of the goods from the port of destination.

DAP – Delivered on site

The seller delivers the goods to the buyer’s final destination, and assumes all risk of shipment and charges or pays a third party to load the goods for shipment. The buyer is only responsible for paying customs fees and clearing the goods. The buyer also pays to unload the goods at the final destination.
