Once upon a time in the land of a thousand and one nights, there was a valley of roses. From this valley come the most mystical roses, and those are none other than the ones that Prodigia distills to produce the most authentic rose water for you; organic, and without additives or colorings.
Soothing, invigorating, and astringent; rose water is an essential beauty secret that Prodigia encourages you to market – pure or incorporated into your cosmetic preparations. Find out in this article everything you need to know about this miracle floral water:
Origin and method of extraction
From the Rosaceae botanical family, the perfume rosebush (Rosa damascena) is found in ‘Kelaat M’Gouna’, or the verdant valley of the Wadi Dades. It is at an altitude of 1500 m, at the foot of the High Atlas, that is the great place of production of the much appreciated damask rose. It is in May that these flowers release their intoxicating and delicious scent in the valley before being harvested, largely by the women of the ‘Kelaa’.
To make 1 liter of hydrosol, you need about 400 fresh roses, or 1 kilo of petals, we are talking about a 1/1 ratio. This minimal extraction ratio guarantees an intense olfactory rendering, better conservation and above all a high concentration of aromatic molecules in the hydrosol, a guarantee of its quality.
According to ancestral tradition, rose floral water is obtained by steaming fresh rose flowers in a still, just like essential oil. The water vapor passes through the petals, entraining the volatile compounds, which releases the active ingredients of the plant. Thanks to this process, both floral water and rose essential oil are collected.
What are its properties?
Anti-Aging Properties
This is one of its most powerful actions. Its great richness in vitamin A stimulates the production of collagen and its antioxidants neutralize the free radicals responsible for skin aging. Rose water strengthens skin cells and boosts tissue regeneration. Thus, the skin gains in tone.
Moisturizing properties
Applied to the skin, it infuses its minerals, replenishes its spring water content, and thus revitalizes it. It limits water loss due to sweating. When applied daily, it contributes to smooth and soft skin.
Soothing properties
Anti-inflammatory, rose water decreases the dilation of blood vessels, the appearance of redness and calms itching. Its other asset lies in its comforting scent which acts on the nervous system.
Exfoliating properties
It is again its abundant vitamin A that operates: it acts as an exfoliant that will limit the appearance of small comedones, small imperfections with, as a result, luminous skin.
Astringent and decongestant properties
Rose water tightens the pores and refines the skin texture. The infusion of roses helps relieve inflammation of the eyes immediately. It relieves dark circles, thanks to its vitamin C content which protects against free radicals.
Properties for the hair
The pH of rose water is very close to the pH of the hair, which reduces excess sebum and gives it back their natural shine.
Which benefits for which uses?
Tonic lotion
Rose water can be used quite simply as a tonic lotion, with a cotton ball or as a spray, to cleanse and purify the epidermis, and even as a cleansing lotion. It is particularly recommended for oily skin because it is astringent and therefore fights excess sebum. It is also a friend of acne-prone skin: on the one hand, it limits the appearance of pimples, on the other hand, it has antiseptic and healing properties that can fight unsightly marks. Mature skin will appreciate it for its anti-aging action, it is also very popular in olfacto therapy to soothe tensions and help find inner peace.
It is also very easy to use since it suffices to spray rose water every morning on the face, bust and arms to have more toned skin.
In a clay mask
Floral water of femininity, Prodigia’s is mainly used with rhassoul clay for face and body mask which gives a very good fragrance and a soothing sensation to the skin. It can also be sprayed over the clay mask once applied to prevent it from drying too quickly.
As a treatment for the scalp
By spraying a little rose water on the scalp and then massaging, it calms irritation and inflammation. Cleansing the scalp and promoting blood circulation also helps hair growth.
