Avocado oil: Beauty of skin and hair

avocado oil

Avocado is the king of “good fats” thanks to its high concentration of monounsaturated fatty acids, known as Omega-9. Just as eating avocado is good for the body, a good dose of its oil has many benefits on the skin and hair. Find out all you need to know about avocado oil in this article:

From its botanical name Persea Gratissima, avocado oil is obtained thanks to a method of extraction by cold pressing: after mixing the avocado pulp with lukewarm water, the paste obtained is kneaded and then centrifuged in order to to recover the virgin oil separately from the water.

Yellow to dark green in color and a thick oily liquid appearance, sometimes cloudy, which can naturally have a pulpy appearance and have plant deposits. This vegetable oil can also partially solidify if it is placed in the cold, due to its fatty acid composition.

Avocado oil: virgin or refined, what's the difference?

Unrefined oil is oil that has not undergone any further processing after pressing: some unrefined oils can still be mechanically filtered to remove impurities. A refined oil, on the other hand, undergoes more processing and loses its original color and odor.
Natural refining is a process that has been used recently: in this case, the oil is refined mechanically, rather than using chemicals. Thus, it does not lose any advantages as with conventional refining with chemicals. Refined oil is best in formulations.

And at Prodigia, we offer you both: Refined Avocado Oil and Virgin Avocado Oil. It’s up to you to choose which of the two most closely matches your target categories, whether you want to market it pure or incorporate it into your cosmetic products.

For the skin

  • Properties:

Thanks to its fatty acid content: oleic acid (Omega 9), palmitoleic acid (Omega 7), linoleic acid (Omega 6), (Omega 3), and vitamins: A, B, D, E, K, Avocado Oil participates in the restoration of the hydrolipidic film of the skin, it softens dry skin.
With a high level of vitamins E and A, known for their antioxidant properties, Avocado Oil itself helps to fight against the harmful effects of free radicals.

  • Benefits:

Thick, it allows for treatments that leave a protective film on the skin and nourish it deeply. Its high content of oleic and palmitoleic acids and active ingredients (tocopherols, carotenoids, phytosterols) gives it a softening and regenerating power ideal for fragile, dry and devitalized skin. Avocado Oil is particularly recommended for dry, devitalized, flaky, or distended skin. But also for delicate skin (neck, eye area) and mature skin, because it is regenerating and restructuring. In addition, it nourishes the skin and protects it against aggressions (cold, wind …). Avocado Oil is restorative and calming, it works wonders on discomfort-prone skin and helps fight stretch marks.

It can be incorporated into your preparations of:

  • Protective care for sensitive and thin skin (face, neck, eye area….
  • Anti-wrinkle preparations for dry and mature skin.
  • Repairing creams for dry hands.
  • Preventive and curative care of stretch marks.
  • Confection of mild soaps (it brings softness and smoothness to the soaps).
  • Massage oils.

For hair

Hair beautifier, it brings shine and vigor to the hair and is known to stimulate hair growth. It has the ability to penetrate the heart of the hair. Its contribution of shine, smoothness and softness is particularly sought after by dry hair lacking in nutrition and difficult to disentangle.

Especially indicated for dull and dry hair and for hair growth, you can incorporate it into your preparations of:

  • Hair care toning and fortifying hair
  • Hair oils and balms to strengthen and stimulate fragile and dry hair
